Member Introduction: Kelluu
Kelluu produces the world’s most detailed earth intelligence from large areas. Their lighter-than-air autonomous airship utilises unique technology enabling near-continuous airborne operation. CEO Janne Hietala explains why their technology is revolutionary.
"Our commercial capability provides data up to 10,000 times more accurate than traditional methods – essential for critical infrastructure and security. Combining the best of airships and drones, we can operate below clouds for extended periods, either moving or remaining stationary as needed."
What expertise do you offer?
“The start-up world and dual-use focus are increasingly vital in modern warfare as the innovation focus shifts to companies, industry, and start-ups. Our leading detailed earth intelligence can add value for other companies or the defence sector by enabling modelling of areas like Eastern Finland or the Arctic across seasons, creating a virtual environment for testing drivability, autonomy, or training.”
What are your expectations for DDE?
"Government agencies need dedicated resources capable of agile development. DDE serves as an ecosystem facilitator, enabling faster and more agile solution development and demonstrations for defence forces and international industry players. The key is applying the product or service in real-world settings to gather valuable feedback.”
What projects are you working on right now?
"A great example is our collaboration with DDE member Saab Finland, who are developing the scalable Sirius Compact passive EW sensor network. While a drone can't carry the radar for long, our airship enables extended operational capability. Together, we can provide world’s most detailed earth intelligence at various altitudes and situational awareness as a service."
What are your company’s future goals?
"Our goal is to internationalise quickly. Finland has taken a rather non-commercial approach to NATO, and this needs to be adjusted. For us, it’s crucial to focus on business use cases and civil applications, find dual-use opportunities and connect with end-users, essentially enabling us to do business with defence sector operators. This is a key priority for us."
