Member Introduction: Millog

Millog’s digitalisation capability is all about ensuring the continuity of their customers’ operations in all conditions and states of readiness. Technical Manager Petri Seppänen explains how Millog supports testing new systems and their performance within the ecosystem.

"As a strategic partner of the Finnish Defence Forces, we are committed to providing uninterrupted operations even in times of crisis. Our services are built on a strong foundation of that experience, with a focus on deploying and maintaining systems to ensure their functionality and long lifecycle on the battlefield, supporting both critical government authorities and businesses.”

Why are you a DDE member?

"A collaborative ecosystem is essential for success in today’s environment where it’s hard to succeed alone. We know the use cases of defence systems and are ready to contribute our expertise to the ecosystem. When all DDE members work together in this way, we can help ensure national security. Additionally, we aim to develop Millog’s culture by enhancing dynamism, agility, and innovation, with a focus on rewarding new ideas. As a well-established company we might not be perceived as a particularly dynamic and agile organisation, so we aim to surprise by openly sharing our strengths."

What expertise do you offer?

"One of our key focus areas is testing and validating that systems and software function as intended. Our core business involves managing the lifecycle of systems on the battlefield, including logistics to ensure they reach the right locations. We also maintain and support these systems, enabling long-term use for over 20 years or more. We understand the needs of the defence forces and the defence sector, and we know how to bring the right parties to the table.”

What projects are you working on now?

"We find research collaboration very interesting. One concept we brought to the ecosystem is remote-assisted battlefield damage repair, inspired by experiences from Ukraine. Several members – such as ReOrbit, Nokia, GIM Robotics, and Turku University of Applied Sciences – have already joined this DDE collaboration with their expertise. It’s incredible to see the amazing use case ideas and features emerging within the ecosystem."

How do you see DDE’s role in Finnish society?

"Based on what we've seen in Europe, the entire society should be committed to ensuring security, especially in normal conditions of readiness. If we need to suddenly innovate new solutions, we should be prepared – and involving the full range of DDE participants in this effort is essential. The ecosystem is exactly as active as its members are."
