Member Introduction: Modirum Defence

Meet a DDE member! Modirum Defence’s aim is to become a significant international player in the defence industry, starting from Finland. The company is a member of the Digital Defence Ecosystem. Jussi Tammelin, Executive Vice President Nordics explains why.

"We have found that DDE is an excellent collaboration body. It strives to ensure that we engage with both other member companies and customers. For us, it has provided collaboration opportunities domestically and internationally, among other things.”

What expertise do you offer to DDE?

"At the moment, we are focusing most heavily on airborne autonomous systems, such as fixed-wing and rotary-wing drones. We also offer software development, armoured aluminium vessels, and ammunition, among other things. In other words, the entire chain that delivers payloads. We are part of the Finnish-owned Modirum Group."

What are your thoughts on new defence?

"DDE operates differently from traditional defence ecosystems, but they are not in conflict with each other. The new defence approach is agile collaboration aimed at quickly delivering ideas, innovations, and, most importantly, end products to the final customer. We work very closely with the end customer."

What benefits does DDE bring to Modirum Defence?

“We have discovered companies with whom we are discussing potential joint projects. We have also gained significant added value in innovation and development activities and found new pathways to reach customers."

How do you see DDE’s role in Finnish society?

"DDE is building a new, faster way of thinking from the perspective of securing supply. While another organization might focus on high-level legislative influence, DDE's working groups aim to deliver concrete results. An example could be an exercise where multiple companies get visibility for their products, or fairs and events such as SecD-Day."
